In my last post I mentioned the current interest in Paleo in Australia, and the attention it has received in the media. This has all come about because of Pete Evans. Pete Evans is an Australian chef, author and television star, most commonly seen on My Kitchen Rules, as one of the judges.

He recently appeared on the television program Sunday Night on Channel 7, and spoke about the Paleo diet. He himself is a huge supporter for the Paleo diet, having released books and creating his own website called “The Paleo Way” (https://thepaleoway.com). Here he actively provides 10-week programs for anyone looking to change their lifestyle with the Paleo diet.

However, with all this positive publicity about the Paleo diet, also came with a lot of controversy. I have decided to share the nutritional benefits of Paleo as well as the disadvantages:

PALEO BENEFITS:
1.     You eat less bad stuff. The diet eliminates processed and junk foods, added sugars, and refined grains—empty calories that most of us are consuming in excessive quantities.
2.     You eat more good stuff: Comprised of meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruits, and healthy, natural fats, the Paleo diet is super nutritious, for sure, and an enormous improvement over the standard American diet.

PALEO DISADVANTAGES:
On the other hand, if you choose to limit your consumption of animal products for ethical or any other reasons, or you’re concerned with the environmental impact of your food choices, or you have a limited food budget, or you enjoy eating a variety of cuisines and traditional foods, I think you’ll find the Paleo diet rather challenging.
